As used in these bylaws, or TYLA’s policy manual or other written materials, “affiliate” or “local affiliate” means any Texas-based lawyer organization or unit of any bar association in which membership primarily consists of regular members of the TYLA in good standing. “Affiliate” is not used to indicate any official relationship but is instead used to indicate TYLA’s connection to those organizations by virtue of shared membership.
TYLA Affiliate Awards
TYLA presents awards at its annual meeting for the outstanding non-lawyer, outstanding lawyer, and for local affiliate projects. Click the links below to view the past affiliate projects and to download application forms.
Liberty Bell
The Liberty Bell Award is presented to a non-lawyer who is significantly engaged in community service that:
- Promotes a better understanding of government, especially the Bill of Rights
- Encourages greater respect for the law and the courts
- Stimulates a deeper sense of individual responsibility, so that citizens recognize their duties and their rights
- Contributes to the effective functioning of our institutions of government
- Instills better understanding and appreciation of the law

The Outstanding Young Lawyer Award is presented to a young lawyer with qualities including but not limited to:
- Professional Proficiency
- Service to the Profession
- Service to the Community

The Outstanding Mentor Award recognizes one attorney who has consistently demonstrated a commitment to mentoring young lawyers in his or her legal community.

TYLA supports its affiliated young lawyer bar associations by providing funding to support local programs that further the purposes of TYLA and by recognizing outstanding effort and achievement through our award programs.
Awards of Achievement
The Awards of Achievement Program provides TYLA affiliates the opportunity to submit their best projects for evaluation. This program is designed to encourage project development by recognizing the time, effort and skills expended by these affiliates in implementing public service and professional service projects in their communities.
