Evicted in Texas: Landlord and Tenant Rights

“Evicted in Texas” is a video project that explains the growing problem of housing insecurity in Texas’s major cities, its impacts on landlords and tenants, the eviction process in JP Court, and how young lawyers can get involved to address the problem. The video is informative as a public resource and can also be used as a central component for development of a pro bono evictions clinic by bar associations, legal aid organizations, or other community groups.

The video is accompanied by the TYLA Tenants’ Rights Handbook (updated following the 2019 Legislative Session) that explains Texas law on these issues in basic layman’s terms and provides contact information for organizations providing assistance. In the future, this page will also contain links to basic forms for landlords and tenants that are currently being considered for approval and adoption by the Texas Access to Justice Commission and the Texas Supreme Court.
