How Texas Courts Work

The “How Texas Courts Work” website includes several informational videos developed from interviews with several practicing Texas attorneys, Texas Supreme Court Justice Boyd, Texas Court of Criminal Appeal Judge McClure, and Seventh Court of Appeals Justice Kelly.

The integrated parts of this project included: (1) an overview of Texas courts and their functions; (2) a resource for members of the media that includes tips on how to accurately and objectively communicate judicial decisions to the public, and for attorneys in communicating with the media; (3) a series of videos of what people should expect when becoming involved in common types of cases (e.g. divorce, car accident, DWI, traffic ticket); (4) a jury service video; (5) a guide on why and how to hire a lawyer; and (6) an educational program for high school and certain middle school students that uses jury deliberations as a model and will help them reasonably question information from media sources and determine what the facts are, using a “more likely than not” standard.
